Bayesian Reimbursement Guide: Early Sepsis Detection

Understand the new Medicare add-on payment for qualifying sepsis discharges and what it means for your health system.

A new reimbursement opportunity for early sepsis detection

Bayesian Health’s sepsis early detection tool has been granted a Medicare New Technology Add-on Payment (NTAP). Beginning October 1, 2026, hospitals using the platform may earn an additional payment above the MS–DRG for qualifying discharges—claim by claim, with no separate authorization.

What health systems need to know

This guide breaks down what the Medicare New Technology Add-on Payment means for clinical and financial leaders, including the eligible inpatient population, payment methodology, and practical steps for preparing your teams.

At a glance

Up to $61.84 per eligible discharge in maximum add-on payment above the MS–DRG, across approximately 739 eligible MS–DRGs—roughly 97% of all DRGs in the inpatient prospective payment system.
